List: Shelters, warming centers open for western WA residents without power

Several cities will open warming shelters this weekend following the wind storm and widespread power outages.

REDMOND, Wash. — Several cities have opened shelters and warming centers for residents impacted by Tuesday night’s wind storm, which whipped winds across Puget Sound cities.

The storm caused widespread damage, knocking out power to hundreds of thousands of people, sending at least five people to the hospital in Seattle, and killing two women, one in Bellevue and another in Lynnwood.

Below is information about shelters and warming centers in impacted cities: 

Bellevue

The South Bellevue Community Center (14509 SE Newport Way) is open as a warming and charging center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.

Issaquah 

Two warming and charging centers are open in Issaquah on Saturday, Nov. 23:

  • Issaquah Senior Center: Open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., located at 75 NE Creek Way
  • Pickering BarnOpen 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., located at 1730 10th Ave. NW

Kirkland

Two charging centers are open in Kirkland on Saturday, Nov. 23:

  • North Kirkland Community Center: Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., located at 12421 103rd Ave. NE
  • Kirkland City HallOpen 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., located at 123 5th Ave.

Mercer Island

Mercer Island Community and Event Center (8236 SE 24th St) is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, for community members to get warm, take showers, charge devices and connect to WiFi.

Muckleshoot Reservation

Muckleshoot Community Center is open overnight for Tribal members and their immediate family members only. The emergency shelter offers cots, food and entertainment. Tribal members and visitors are asked to bring their own sleeping bags and pillows.

Redmond

Three warming and charging centers are open in Redmond on Saturday, Nov. 23:

  • City Hall: Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., located at 15670 NE 85th St.
  • Redmond Senior & Community Center: Open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., located at 8703 160th Ave NE
  • Redmond Community Center at Marymoor Village: Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., located at 6505 176th Ave NE

Sammamish

Sammamish City Hall (801 228th Ave SE) is open as a warming center from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.

Seattle

The Garfield Community Center (2323 E Cherry St.) is open as an overnight shelter starting at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, in partnership with the Red Cross. The shelter is providing cots, showers, meals, snacks and charging stations. Pets are welcome.

Seattle Center Armory (305 Harrison St) is open as a warming and charging center from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.
